Nathan Verbelen, Bruce Forton and Silke Rys immerse themselves in the theme of ‘solace’ for a month, using drawings, textile art and other media to search for comfort.

Solace is offered to you or offered to others; ways to comfort, support, make each other laugh. The stories of friends, parents and grandparents become shoulders to lean on, they create connection. Settling down, sighing and finding a home in your days: waking up before your alarm one morning, hanging out of your bedroom window in a light fabric with your sleeves rolled up to watch the crows and realise they still sound the same as they did when you were little. When your hands make that one dish by themselves, when the lines on your sheet of paper twist themselves into a story just like that – relief is losing your wallet but finding your keys, or missing your last bus and seeing the city wake up on your walk home.

Bruce Forton

Bruce Forton is a draughtsman, architect and performing artist. On stage, he operates under the alter ego Blub. The relationship between reality, nature, language and identity plays an important role in his work. This often translates into a bringing together of organic and geometric forms, figurative and abstract.

Silke Rys

Multi-disciplinary jack-of-all-trades Silke Rys works as a circus artist, textile artist and ceramist. She has continued to tell stories since graduating, but through tactile and three-dimensional projects. Silke builds bridges between different art forms and strives to create experiential work.

Nathan Verbelen

Ever since he got to know the pencil, Nathan Verbelen has not known what to do with it. Sharp creatures and crabby cretins are right at home with him. He self-published the comic strip De Neerdaler in 2022, and has been roaming the train tracks between Brussels and Leuven ever since.
