GRAFIXX EXT.: Off the Wall @ Bureau Bouwtechniek
in collaboration with Bureau Bouwtechniek
Every two years, Bureau Bouwtechniek invites a new artist to create a wall painting at their headquarters located in the Nieuw Zuid neighbourhood of Antwerp. Grafixx selected Arthur Devisscher, whose detailed and colourful sequential works unfold in stories that pay tribute to nature and the animal kingdom.

OFF THE WALL
OFF THE WALL is Bureau Bouwtechniek’s art project and was created in 2021 when they moved into a new office in Antwerp. Every two years, Bureau Bouwtechniek invites an artist to create a mural in the entrance hall. A meeting with Bureau Bouwtechniek and what drives them and of course with the wall in question are his inspirations. The result, the mural, is a dialogue between the artist’s creative process and the motto: meaning in every square metre.
With the art project, Bureau Bouwtechniek and Grafixx want to give opportunities to young artists. Opportunities that make a difference in the development of their trajectory.
Arthur Devisscher
Characteristic of the work of the young Bruges illustrator Arthur Devisscher are his overflowing, colourful drawings. They show imaginative scenes in which both animals and people parade. Both recognisable and alienating at the same time. Man and animal walk hand in hand. Often armed with sword or gun. Arthur’s drawn world therefore shows little realism. He starts from an idea, a sentence or an image. The rest comes naturally. Intuitively. And gradually.
Details. That is what Arthur is all about. He builds up his drawings with a multitude of small elements and uses colours on top of each other. This brings with it a slowness. And makes each creation an intense, almost ritualistic experience. The viewer can also linger endlessly in Arthur’s work. The abundance of details forces a stillness.
Arthur Devisscher studied illustration at LUCA School of Arts, Campus Sint-Lucas Ghent.
