Isabelle Vandenabeele

Isabelle Vandenabeele often works with woodcuts and linocuts. She makes picture books, zines and posters, and occasionally creates papier-mâché figures. She sees the limitations of her techniques as a game and a challenge, through which she attempts to depict her inner world via stories and imagination. Her work is characterised by powerful lines, great expressiveness, striking colours and an intense inner tension between the images. Vandenabeele knows how to capture a story in a few key images — complex and understated at the same time. She does not shy away from touching on dark emotions. Lukas Verstraete

Lukas Verstraete (born 1992) creates his drawings in a world populated by losers, grotesque women, and gloom. In these drawings, he expresses his doubts about human nature and, entangled in naivety, greasiness, melancholy and jolly, attempts to provide an answer to the purpose of our existence. Lukas obtained his Master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Luca School of Arts in Ghent in 2014. Since then, he has illustrated for HUMO, the New York Times, Rekto:Verso, VPRO-gids, Bahamontes, and others. In 2017, he published his first graphic novel, Een Boek Waarmee Vrienden Maakt, which was later translated into French and English. He also teaches in the Illustration studio at LUCA Ghent and Comic Strip at LUCA Brussels.
