Lukas Verstraete (BE)

In a world populated by misfits, grotesque women and gloom, Lukas Verstraete (born 1992) creates his drawings. In these drawings, he expresses his doubts about human nature and, entangled in naivety, greasiness, melancholy and jolly, attempts to provide an answer to the purpose of our existence. Lukas obtained his Master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Luca School of Arts in Ghent in 2014. Since then, he has illustrated for HUMO, the New York Times, Rekto:Verso, VPRO-gids, Bahamontes, and others. In 2017, he published his first graphic novel, Een Boek Waarmee Vrienden Maakt, which was later translated into French and English. He also teaches in the Illustration studio at LUCA Ghent and Comic Strip at LUCA Brussels.
