Isabelle Vandenabeele (BE)
Isabelle Vandenabeele often works with woodcuts and linocuts. She creates picture books, zines and posters, and occasionally makes papier-mâché figures. She sees the limitations of her techniques as a game and a challenge, through which she attempts to depict her inner world via stories and imagination. Her work is characterised by powerful lines, great expressiveness, striking colours and an intense inner tension between the images. Vandenabeele knows how to capture a story in a few key images — complex and understated at the same time. She does not shy away from touching on dark emotions. Raw and tough, direct and subtle at the same time: her images linger.
